"Midland Pirates Find New Theme Park"

The "third annual" MIDLANDS PIRATE FESTIVAL returns to the Nebraska scene, after seeing its second year cancelled by the freak October blizzard of 2009. Coming back in force, the Bellevue Berry & Pumpkin Ranch will be ready for all the novel fun on Sept. 25/26th (11am to 6pm).

"More than ready," claims producer Gregory Schmidt. "Thanks to the talented Schaefer family the property is adding new staging areas and kid's attractions to this developing new theme park."

Besides additional landscaping, fun park structures and quaint shops for merchants, the fall pirate festival will have more food novelties and artisan merchants who travel the national circuit.

The festival will showcase numerous hands-on activities and games of skill designed for the interests of children, teens and adults.
It kicks off the night-time haunts and traditional harvest/October activities that are so popular at the ranch.

"If you like jewelry or leather goods or that rare gift find, this is just the event for you," Schmidt continues. "Our castaway merchants bazaar is full of surprising and inexpensive treasures."

The Gruel Galley food court will feature a wide variety of edible delights, and the Buccaneer Beer Garden will be nearby.

Long John Silvers restaurants are donating large amounts of prizes and coupons for the various contests, games of skill and the daily treasure hunt through the Pirates Cove Cave.

The Midlands Pirate Festival will also feature experiences of both authentic history and Disney-esque fantasy. While there will be presentations about the Missouri River keelboat marauders, who prowled the Nebraska Territory, there will also be an entire realm dedicated to kid's interests in faeries, tree-houses and Peter Pan characters - such as Capt. Hook.

The hi-light of the event will be the variety of stage shows and village acts that are hired from Minneapolis and Kansas City, with everything from comedy and music to stunts and combat.

"Just getting to climb about on the nearly full-scale pirate ship that is beached on the sands of Nebraska, here at the ranch, is worth the price of admission for most kids," Schmidt concludes.

Festivals International named the inaugural (2008) Midlands Pirate Festival 'the Best First-Time Event in Nebraska'.

The Bellevue Berry & Pumpkin Ranch can be found in Papillion on South 48th Street, betwixt Cornhusker Road and Hwy #370.

There will be ample free parking with admission at $11 for adults and $5 for kids from 5 to 12, with tots free. There are also group rates available.
